LEAVING IRELAND FOR A WHILE
(Andy Dunne)

1.
There's lots of work for everyone,
In another man's land it seems,
We must leave behind our families,
Our good friends and our dreams,
So what's gone wrong with Ireland,
To say we've got to go,
No matter where you look for work,
The answer's always no.

Chorus
We're leaving now, but we won't say goodbye,
We'll leave the trees to wither,
And spread our wings to fly,
To a warm land,
Leaving Ireland for a while.

2.
They say the unemployment list,
Gets smaller every day,
But that's because half the country's,
Packed and gone away,
Searching for their dignity,
On foreign building sites,
Working for a decent wage,
To send home to their wives.

3.
The men in power seem to think,
There's nothing they can do,
They drive them round in flashy cars,
With no thoughts for me or you,
Everybody knows somebody,
Gone across the sea,
They're better off in foreign parts,
Than here in poverty
